Our History

The Orcas Island Film Festival was co-founded by Jared Lovejoy and Carl Spence. Their vision and commitment, along with the support of many extraordinary individuals, donors, and businesses on the Island nurtured their dream into reality. The first festival was presented to film lovers in October 2014 to much love and success. Since then it has been praised by film and arts critics, it has encouraged young filmmakers through grants and programming, it has had the honor of award-winning director Jean-Marc Vallée being a spokesperson for the past years, and has spawned more inspired programming through the year leading up to the festival.
